She was walking in a forest. Flowers seemed to bloom at her every step and birds flew every now and then to twitter about their day to her. She smiled gently at them and lifted her hand so that they could land and rest their wings for a moment. The sun was shining but it was deliciously cool under the trees where shafts of sunshine reigned with golden rays.
Suddenly a waft of cold wind drifted in her direction, wilting the flowers at her feet and scaring the birds away. She lifted her face to feel the wind which had a hint of frost within, then turned when she felt eyes on her.
A man stepped away from the trees, a cloak of the purest white enveloping his firm body. He was easily one of the most beautiful men she had ever laid eyes on but unlike the mortal man, he possessed an iciness that was the legacy of his mantel as Adept of Winter.
"Glennas." She greeted him politely with an inclination of her head, a mischievous smile lighting up her face that was not as fair as his but held its own among women acoss Arthenia.
"Politeness from you, Luthiea?" Glennas chuckled with a seldom seen warmth, "that's really rare."
Luthiea laughed, "well, if it could make you happy, I don't see why not?" She told him, her eyes twinkling merrily.
Still chuckling, Glennas made a slight gesture and reappeared at her side without warning, then he took her into his arms. Though he was of the Cold and she was of the Warm, it didn't make their embrace any less comfortable for their auras cancelled each other out and left a lukewarm effect that was sleepily pleasant.
"I could never be unhappy with you around, Luthiea." He murmured in her ear, sending shivers of excitement up her spine, "You'll always be my oasis of warmth in an icy storm."
Luthiea looked up into his face and gazed into his azure eyes that seemed bottomless, "Are you for real, Glennas?" She teased.
Glennas didn't answer in words but with his lips. As their kiss deepened, their surroundings whirled with a complexity of hues. Luthiea could think of nothing but Glennas' kiss and the feeling of sinking into a soft bed...

Joani suddenly sat up, furiously blushing as memories of her dream washed over her in hot waves. She thought she was not that easily affected by the dreams she has had since puberty but here she was, outwardly scandalized but inwardly wondering if she should have continued with the dream.
Just as she was wondering whether she should go back to sleep, she suddenly noticed her surroundings. She was sitting on a four post bed that had hangings with exquisite designs in a room that seemed to follow the open concept with a fervent passion. The roof was opened to the dusky skies above and statues of people in various poses served as columns and doorways covered with a material that looked oddly like leaves. Veins of flowers circled the columns in an effect that was strangely enchanting and even the statues of people were not spared from the encirclement of the plants. Outside of the room, was a view that was quite literally breath-taking. It was a forest with autumnal colors of every hue imaginable. The dusky skies above, though in sharp contrast, seemed to accentuate rather than diminish its beauty.
Joani was honestly captured by the display of architectural beauty. Whoever had thought of this concept must be a genius, she thought to herself.
Suddenly, the sound of a throat clearing interrupted her thoughts. With slight irritation, she turned and found Luke standing by one of the figures of people that served as pillars, looking as if he had found a pleasant surprise. His eyes were openly appreciative and the smile on his lips were anything but a sneer that she was accustomed to seeing.
Joani was about to ask him where she was when she remembered what happened before she fainted. Her eyes dropped to his pointy ears and Joani slapped a hand to her forehead as if she was feeling faint again. Luke recognised her look and held two hands in front of him as if appeasing her.
"Please don't faint again." He implored, "I'll explain everything."
"Are you for REAL?" Joani asked him faintly, "Are you REALLY an elf?"
Luke sighed in exasperation, "yes, Joani." He admitted, "I am."
"Goodness," Joani took a deep breath shakily, "perhaps you'd like to explain." She told him while telling herself to calm down, this was all just a bad dream.
Luke looked at her warily, "you're not going to faint again, are you?"
Joani didn't trust herself to say another word so she nodded.
Luke strolled over to her bed and sat down on the edge of it. He was wearing different clothes from the first time she saw him in the forest. A robe that clung to his body in all the right places and bound to attract female eyes. As she stared in fascination while he moved with a lithe grace, she suddenly realised she should be worried to be stuck in an unfamiliar place and not admiring male bodies. She snapped her attention back to Luke's face where his azure eyes were watching her with a similar intensity.
"Shall we begin then?" he asked her.
Joani swallowed hard and nodded.

"First, my name is Lucian. Luke Skit is only an alias that I use whenever I have the need to enter your world, Earth." Luke aka Lucian paused as he assessed Joani's wild-looking eyes and concluded that she would not be fainting again. At least, not for the next minute or so. Having assured himself so, Lucian told Joani everything starting from the epic battle between the Dark Adept and his three ex-colleagues up to the point when he and his brother, Leolas, rescued Joani from the Dark Minions that had been sent to kidnap her.
"Dark Minions?" Joani sputtered, "what on earth are they?"
"They're the creatures of the Dark which were conjured by the Dark Adept to help him snatch the Orb."
"Creatures? Such as?"
"Werewolves, trolls, demons and such like."
Joani gulped. "So you are saying that I had a narrow escape?"
Lucian nodded wearily, "correct, the minions were difficult to deal with but luckily there were only three of them so my brother and I managed to save you."
"But...but...why would they want to kidnap me? I'm just a normal person!" A hysterical quality crept into Joani's voice.
Lucian sighed, "haven't you been listening, Joani?" He asked her in exasperation, "the spirits of the three Adepts fled after the battle to seek refuge in rebirth but the prophecy has it that they will return once again to do battle with the Dark Adept who had not thoroughly perished at their last battle. In fulfilment of the prophecy, the Orb revealed the exact locations of the three Adepts so that they may return to Arthenia and conclude the matter once and for all."
Joani was beginning to have a bad feeling about this.
"I...I don't happen to be one of the Adepts....do I? She asked gingerly.
"You are." Lucian assured her, "And I can even prove it."
Joani raised a skeptical eyebrow, "oh?
"Take off your blouse."
"What?!"
"Was it not clear enough the first time? Take. Off. Your. Blouse."
Joani backed away from Lucian as fast as she could possibly manage on the soft bed.
"What are you going to do?!" She demanded.
Lucian sighed in exasperation, "are you wearing anything under that blouse?"
"Of course, you dork!"
"Then that'll satisfy the basic rules of modesty, don't you think? Now take off that blouse or I'll have to take drastic steps."
Joani eyed Lucian warily, her hand clutched protectively at the front of her blouse. "Why should I take off my blouse? I thought you said you wanted to prove I was one of the Adepts."
"That's correct." Lucian agreed amicably. "But the proof can only be found on your right shoulder."
Joani stared at him in astonishment, "what exactly is supposed to be on my right shoulder?"
"A birthmark shaped like that of a tree to symbolise Spring." Lucian told her.
At these words, Joani was even more confused. How could anyone have known about her birthmark? Other than her family members, no one else knew about it. If Luke...no Lucian...knew about it, could there be in fact some truth to what he had told her? Joani's head throbbed, this was not exactly what she called after-work entertainment. She sighed, then made an immediate decision.
"Get me a mirror." She told Lucian, then proceeded to unbutton her blouse.
By the time Lucian returned with a mirror, Joani had already half-unbuttoned her blouse and trying to look over her right shoulder to see her birthmark. Lucian held the mirror to her right shoulder.
"Here, this will make it easier." Lucian's voice was slightly shaky but Joani didn't notice. She was too busy staring at her birthmark in the mirror.
It did indeed resemble a tree. Joani had known that since she was young but she wanted to be sure. She didn't want to believe that she was part of the craziness that Lucian seem to be part of.
"Well?" Lucian asked, still holding the mirror to her shoulder after she had stared at the birthmark for a few minutes, "now, do you believe me?"
Joani didn't speak. Instead she just slide the blouse back up much to Lucian's regret and sat down on the bed, buttoning up as she did so.
For a long while, she didn't say a word.
Finally she gazed into Lucian's eyes and asked the question that was the uppermost in her mind.
"Alright, what now?"

"You'll have to stay here until we locate your ex-colleagues on Earth." Luke told Joani in a firm voice that brooked no objections whatsoever.
"But...but, what about my family? They'll be worried if they don't see me for days. Not to mention Mr. Tan who'll go ballistic if I don't turn up for work tomorrow."
"I don't think you need to worry about them. Just stay where I can keep an eye on you because you never know when an assassin might come for your life."
Joani took a deep breath to steady her already rattled nerves, "I thought you said I'm the Adept of Spring. Doesn't that mean I can defend myself?"
Lucian looked amused, "Well, yes but the problem is you can't use your powers until they're awakened by the Orb. So you're pretty much under my protection for now."
"You mean pretty much at your mercy." Joani muttered rebelliously to herself.
"What did you say?"
"Nothing." Joani answered with wide-eyed innocence, "So erm, what's for dinner?"
Lucian raised his eyebrow at her, "You're really amazing. One minute you threaten to go into hysterics and the next you act as if this happens to you everyday."
Joani gave him a wan smile, "Let's just say I'm adaptable. Besides, what good will it do me if I continue to be hysterical? Might as well go with the flow and see what happens."
Lucian gazed at her with newfound respect, "Not bad. Not bad at all, Miss Ng. I'm beginning to think that you're not a complete idiot after all."
Leaving Joani to splutter in rage on the bed, Lucian turned with a hidden smile to pull on the bell rope by the side of the bed.
He was going to have some interesting times with this one.
